  1. Introduction
  2. ------------
  3. BBEdit Lite for OpenDoc (BBEdit•od Lite) is a freeware OpenDoc part
  4. which includes the basic text-editing capabilities of BBEdit, our
  5. popular and critically acclaimed text editor. When properly installed,
  6. BBEdit•od Lite can be used with any OpenDoc container application, as
  7. well as any OpenDoc part that is capable of embedding other OpenDoc
  8. parts.

  11. Installation
  12. ------------
  13. BBEdit•od Lite requires version 1.1 or later of OpenDoc.
  14.  
  15. Place the “MercutioPlugIn” file into the “OpenDoc Shell Plug-Ins”
  16. folder. This folder may be found in the “OpenDoc” folder, which in turn
  17. resides in the “Editors” folder in your active system folder.

  19. Place the “BBEdit•od Lite” file (which is the OpenDoc part itself) in
  20. the “Editors” folder, which resides in your active System Folder.
  21.  
  22. Place the “BBEdit•od Lite 1.0” stationery file in the “Stationery”
  23. folder which is at the top level of your startup disk.

  25. If you would like to use BBEdit extensions with BBEdit•od Lite, then
  26. make an alias to an existing “BBEdit Extensions” folder, and place the
  27. alias in your active system folder.

  29. Please be aware that, due to constraints inherent to OpenDoc and the
  30. BBEdit extension architecture, not all BBEdit extensions are compatible
  31. with BBEdit Lite for OpenDoc. In particular, it is not possible to use
  32. the HTML Tools which are included with the commercial version of BBEdit
  33. in this manner.

  35. From this point, you may use standard OpenDoc techniques to embed
  36. BBEdit•od Lite content in your existing OpenDoc documents, or to create
  37. new BBEdit•od Lite documents.

  40. License Requirements

  42. Although BBEdit Lite for OpenDoc is free, it is not “public domain”. It
  43. is copyrighted, and Bare Bones Software, Inc. reserves all rights;
  44. therefore:

  46. •    BBEdit Lite for OpenDoc cannot be sold, either by itself or in
  47.     combination with any other product, without the express written
  48.     permission of Bare Bones Software, Inc.
  49.  
  50. •    If you are a user group which is publishing a CD-ROM or floppy
  51.     collection, you may include BBEdit Lite for OpenDoc and all of its
  52.     related files without restriction, save that the entire original
  53.     package is included. Contact Bare Bones Software for up-to-date
  54.     versions and information.

  56. •    If you are a hard disk vendor which distributes PD, shareware, and
  57.     freeware on your disk drives, you are welcome to distribute BBEdit
  58.     Lite. Contact Bare Bones Software for up-to-date versions and
  59.     information.

  61. •    Commercial publishers and distributors of CD-ROM software
  62.     collections, to include any and all software compilations provided
  63.     as an adjunct to printed or online publications, may not distribute
  64.     BBEdit Lite for OpenDoc on CD-ROM without the express written
  65.     permission of Bare Bones Software, Inc.

  67. •    BBEdit Lite for OpenDoc may be posted on an information service
  68.     which charges its users for general connection time and downloading,
  69.     but it may NOT be posted to an information service which will charge
  70.     for the specific right to download BBEdit Lite for OpenDoc, without
  71.     the express written permission of Bare Bones Software, Inc.

  73. •    BBEdit Lite for OpenDoc may be given away as a support utility for
  74.     a package which is itself to be given away. People who need to
  75.     distribute BBEdit Lite for OpenDoc as a support utility should
  76.     contact Bare Bones Software for up-to-date versions and information.
